What it means
  • Vaccines protect against deadly diseases common in India.
  • Core (all dogs):
  • DHPPi / DAPP (combo): Distemper, Hepatitis/Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza
  • Rabies (legal + travel/registration needs)
  • Often added in India (risk-based):
  • Leptospirosis (Lepto) β€” high risk in monsoon/wet areas
  • Bordetella (kennel cough) β€” for boarding/grooming/daycare
  • Less common here:
  • Canine Influenza (H3N2/H3N8) β€” consider only for outbreaks/travel
  • Lyme β€” rare in India; vaccine usually not used
  • India examples (not endorsements): Nobivac DHPPi, Nobivac Lepto, Nobivac Rabies (MSD); Raksharab (IIL) for Rabies; Megavac-7 (IIL) DHPPi+Lepto combo.
Do this
  • Puppy start: 6–8 weeks β†’ DHPPi (combo). Repeat every 3–4 weeks until 16 weeks.
  • Lepto (if at risk): 2 doses, 2–4 weeks apart (often given with DHPPi). Then yearly.
  • Rabies: 12–16 weeks (per local rule), then booster at ~1 year; later as law/product says (many cities still want yearly rabies certificate).
  • 1-year booster: DHPPi + Rabies.
  • Adults: DHPPi every 1–3 yrs (per vet/product); Rabies as per law; Lepto yearly if risk persists.
  • Bordetella: single dose, then every 6–12 months if your dog goes to boarding/grooming/daycare.
  • Keep a vaccine record (phone + printed). Needed for pet licences, travel, and some housing societies.
Watch for
  • Normal after-shot: sleepiness, mild fever/lump (24–48h).
  • Call vet fast: face swelling, hives, breathing trouble, vomiting, collapse, very high fever.
